"My 34 years at Wellesley College began in 1973, the year the Department of Black Studies (as it was then called,) was established.   I immediately became interested in the history of Black students and Black Studies at Wellesley College.  I incorporated this interest into my teaching.  In 2005  five of the department's students, Gladys Onyango, Surayyah Hassan, Bahiyyih Khelgati, Mawuena Binka and Krysland Filippi produced this excellent tribute to the history of Black Studies at Wellesley."
